It's a legal requirement for all teachers and lecturers working in Nigerian schools and higher education institutions to be registered, and this is also part of the agreed national terms and conditions of employment.

We establish and maintain the standards for joining and continuing in the teaching profession, and we address serious concerns raised about teachers and teacher lecturers.

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is responsible for establishing standards for teacher education, accrediting Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes, approving qualifications for professional registration, and ensuring only suitably trained and qualified individuals enter the teaching profession.
